The Scholar Shop is an academic support center and learning library. The shop provides educational resources to students from Workshop Houston’s other programs and the neighborhood. We opened the shop because many youth excelled in our programs, yet still struggled in school. The Scholar Shop gives the youth we work with the support to succeed in school and beyond.

In Scholar Shop, students of all ages receive tutoring and assistance with school work. In addition, participants take part in clubs, projects and activities that help them to develop a love of learning and see the many applications of their education. The shop is staffed by trained volunteer tutors who work not only to ensure that students’ achieve academically, but also act as mentors and inspire participants towards higher education.

Spring Break E-Rock Trip

March 30, 2010

Over spring break we went to Enchanted Rock State Park for two nights of camping. We left Tuesday morning and stopped in San Antonio for lunch and a quick tour of the Alamo on the way.  We hiked two miles to our primitive campsite carrying all of our gear with us.  Wednesday, we hiked up the rock, and we went through the cave on the backside. Upon returning to our campsite we all played in the creek, had dinner, and then went on a star-gazing walk.  Thursday,  we headed back to Houston, with stops at  San Marcos for a quick swim in the river, and in Lockhart for some barbecue. All in all, the weather was fantastic, and we had a great trip.
