Workshop Houston’s mission is to provide youth with creative, technical and educational resources. Our vision is to lay the groundwork for a just society by creating a community that provides youth with support, expanded opportunities and alternative definitions of success. Workshop Houston has five shops that provide resources and support for young people: the Third Ward Bike Shop (do-it-yourself bike repair), the Chopper Shop (welding and metal fabrication), the Beat Shop (hip-hop music production), the Style Shop (fashion design) and the Scholar Shop (tutoring and academic enrichment).

The Tipping Point is Houston’s first and only sneaker lifestyle store located in Downtown on the ground floor of the Historic Humble Building. We curate an eclectic collection of sneakers, books, art, apparel, music, and accessories that are a reflection of the Tipping Point lifestyle. Our ongoing mission is to expose new innovative products and ideas that reflect our beliefs to our hand picked audience. We also seek to educate our guest on the history of our products.

New Workshop Houston Poster By a Style Shop Participant

Thursday, January 20th, 2011
my new poster

my new poster

I made this poster by following  a tutorial on the internet.   I didn’t learn anything because I already knew how to do the tutorial.   My favorite part of this project was when it was over because I was finally finished with all my hard work.   It was a lot of  work but it paid off in the end.

Apron Exchange!

Tuesday, January 11th, 2011

Aaliyah and Nicole recently finished a few aprons (one of our intro to sewing projects) in Style Shop.  We already have quite a few aprons in Style Shop, so we figured they could use them over in Chopper and Bike Shop.  Here are some pics of our apron donation mission to Chopper Shop.  You can see how happy Matt and Will are with their awesome new aprons!

Custom Holiday T-Shirts!

Monday, January 3rd, 2011

Wow, we have had so much fun stuff going on in Style Shop this fall that I have been too busy to blog about it.  The style shop crew has been making tremendous progress in sewing, screen printing, drawing, and computer design.  With the approach of the Holidays we decided to take a little break from our normal routine and make some custom printed holiday themed t-shirts for the students to give out as gifts.  There are some very lucky parents and siblings in Third Ward if you ask me.  Here are a few (not very good) pics from the end of the week.
