Workshop Houston’s Five Year Anniversary Open House is coming up on Saturday, March 28th from 1pm to 4pm. We hope you can come out and join us to celebrate five years of innovative youth programs in the Third Ward! More info coming soon!

Thanks to Green Mountain Energy (who donated the panels) and Standard Renewable Energy (who donated the installation), we now have a solar array installed on the roof of our building!

The panels convert sunlight into electricity and will offset approximately 5,100 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2) each year, the equivalent of planting 150 trees or removing 130 cars from the road annually.

To celebrate, come by the shop this Saturday, January 24 and check out the events below:

Houston Solar Tour (Bike Ride)
8 am - 11 am
Starts at our shop, 3615 Sauer
10 Mile loop touring other solar arrays in the area
Returns in time for the Ceremony
Please bring your Helmet!

Dedication Ceremony and Celebration:
11:30 am - 1 pm
Food, Music, short speeches, information on solar energy, and "flipping the switch" to activate the system.

Come help Workshop Houston get started on renovating our third building with a day of demolition and clean up!  Please help us spread the word and come by if you can.

A few weeks ago we were invited to show off some of our creations at the Make:TV booth at the PBS programming fair.  Chris, Montrell, and I packed up the Naruto bike and the motorized skateboard and headed over to the Houston Intercontinental Hotel.  We were hanging out at the booth when some guys came up and started checking out the bike and talking to us.  They were really excited about the bike and asked us if we knew the Lowrider song (which they then sang).

Not to overdo it with the skate pics, but we took these on a recent friday trip to the skatepark and they were such good pics that I just had to post them.

Riding a recent wave of skating enthusiasm around the shop, the Bike Shop is now accepting donations of skateboards and skateboard parts.  Please bring any donations by the Shop during regular shop hours.

Saturday October 18, 2008 we took a day trip to Austin, Texas with 8 participants.  We had a fun time at the Maker Fair and swimming at Barton Springs.
