Katy Goodman, Co-Director

A founding member of Workshop Houston, Katy hails from Oakland, California. She graduated from Oberlin College in 2002 with a B.A. in Politics, focusing on grassroots organizing and civil society. After being involved in the facilitation of numerous community arts and education projects in college, and helping to build Workshop Houston from a community bike shop into a thriving youth development organization, Katy became Co-director of Workshop Houston in 2010.
Reginald Hatter, Co-Director

Reginald Hatter is from Los Angeles, California. He graduated from Baylor University in 2003 with a BA in Political Science and minored in Criminal Justice. He has taught SAT preparatory classes at Wharton County Junior College and has provided tutorial services for Huntington Learning Center. Throughout his collegiate career, Reginald was head of a non-profit tutorial service at G.L. Wiley Middle School as a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Reginald came to Workshop Houston in 2007 to help launch the Scholar Shop. After successfully integrating this new academic element into the organization, in 2010 he became Co-Director, in charge of programs.
Jill Brumer, Style Shop Coordinator

Jill grew up on the coast of South Carolina but came to Houston in 2006. She holds a B.A. in English and Drama and an M.F.A. in Performing Arts, and worked as a college professor at the beginning of her time in Texas. In 2009 Jill helped open the first sewing lounge in the Charleston SC area, teaching both children and adults the skills of sewing, knitting, and more. She is excited to be back in Houston and spending her time instructing at Workshop Houston.
Bass Heavy, Beat Shop Coordinator

Bass Heavy hails from the musical marshes of Louisiana. Bass attended performing arts schools from the age of ten. He went on to The University of New Orleans where he double majored in jazz studies and engineering finishing with a B.S. in electrical engineering in 2000. Most of Bass Heavy’s production gigs have come at the hands of some of New Orleans most successful Rap Artists including Former No Limit and Cash Money artists such as Mannie Fresh, Juvenile, B.G., Mia X,C-Murder, and Soulja Slim. However, Bass is no one trick pony. His productions offer a wide range of musical landscapes thanks to his broad musical background.
Sanjay Sharma, Chopper Shop Coordinator

Sanjay is from the Washington DC area. He graduated from George Mason University in 1999 with a B.A. in Studio Art. He makes sculptures and furniture mostly out of found metal, and has shown in galleries in Columbus, OH, Toledo OH, and Fairfax, VA. He enjoys sharing his knowledge with kids and helping them achieve their goals.
Matthew Sullivan, Bike Shop Coordinator

Matthew Sullivan was born and raised in Houston. He is an artist and has been involved with Workshop Houston since it’s founding. He has a passion for helping people and affecting positive change in the world by spreading knowledge and skills using the fundamentals of how things work as a basis. For this reason Matthew has always been drawn to the productive, open learning atmosphere of the Third Ward Bike Shop. Matthew has a Bachelors of Fine Arts from the School for The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Aside from working with the community through bikes Matthew also practices art in many other forms throughout the community at large.
Staff Emeritus
Zach Moser
Zach is one of the Founders of Workshop Houston. He graduated from Oberlin College in 2002 with a B.A. in Studio Art with a focus on community based art projects. While at Oberlin he founded an after-school program as well as Oberlin’s Big Parade. During this time he also taught youth art classes. In 2003 Zach received the Compton Mentor Fellowship award. Zach received an Artadia Award in 2006, and has shown his work in galleries throughout the United States. Zach is currently heading the Shrimp Boat Project as an artist in residence at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts at University of Houston.
Seth Capron
Seth is one of the Founders of Workshop Houston. He graduated from Oberlin College in 2002 with a degree in Environmental Studies and a focus on music. He is also a graduate of the Leadership Institute for Non-Profit Executives at Rice University. Before starting Workshop Houston, Seth worked as a mechanic and manager in several bike shops, and designed and taught youth and adult courses in land use, bike repair, and ecology. He has also volunteered in a number of elementary and middle school after-school programs as an instructor, tutor and mentor. Seth is now pursuing his MBA at Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management.
Benjy Mason
Benjy is one of the Founders of Workshop Houston. He graduated from Oberlin College in 2002 with a degree in History. He was previously Co-President of the Oberlin Bike Co-op where he designed and implemented a variety of community based programs, including a bike repair program for youth at-risk and the now annual Bike-In Movie Series. He also taught a variety of other youth arts and mechanics classes for several local organizations. Benjy also makes stuff which has been shown at spaces around Houston including DiverseWorks, Project Row Houses and the Orange Show.
